HERE WE GO: Arsenal agree deal to sign top-class midfielder who could give 20-assists to Viktor Gyokeres next season- Medical already completed

Arsenal are reportedly waiting in the wings if Newcastle United fail to seal a deal for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.

CaughtOffside reports that Thiaw is on the Gunners’ shortlist as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his defence further. The arrival of Colombian Christhian Mosquera doesn’t seem to be the only centre-back addition the club are keen to make.

Thiaw has emerged as Newcastle’s top target as the Magpies search for a new centre-back, and it would appear that Eddie Howe’s Tyneside outfit are in pole position. But the North Londoners are in the mix and could swoop for the 24-year-old.

Arsenal Set Sights On Newcastle Target Malick Thiaw

Newcastle are reportedly “one step away” from signing Thiaw, with personal terms having been agreed upon ahead of a potential £35m move to St James’ Park. But a deal isn’t over the line and it appears that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs.

Mikel Arteta likes strength in depth, and Thiaw offers plenty of versatility, able to play right-back and has even been trialled in defensive midfield while at Schalke in the Bundesliga. His six-foot-four-inch frame has caused issues in Serie A, although he lost his place in Milan’s starting lineup at the back end of last season.

Arsenal might not be prioritising the three-cap Germany international because Arteta is well-stocked in defence. The Spaniard has added Mosquera to a squad that consists of Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, and Jurrien Timber.

The North London giants are considering swooping for another attacker despite the arrival of Noni Madueke. They have reportedly “re-ignited their interest” in wantaway Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman while their transfer chiefs have held talks with Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze throughout the summer, per Fabrizio Romano.

Thiaw has two years left on his contract at the San Siro and a move to the Premier League could soon be on the cards. If Newcastle’s potential deal collapses, it could prompt Arteta to pursue one of Italian football’s most “dominant” defenders; however, this doesn’t appear to stem from William Saliba’s contractual situation.

Saliba’s current contract expires in two years’ time, and he’s on Real Madrid’s radar, which is concerning the Emirates faithful. There has been talk of a potential swap deal involving Rodrygo who the club have eyed up for the left-wing role.
