Sports Desk: Veteran tennis star and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has announced his retirement. Nadan has confirmed that he will retire from professional tennis after this season. The 38-year-old tennis icon will play his final competitive match for Spain in the Davis Cup final in Malaga in November.

Nadal shared the news via a video message released on Thursday in which he spoke about his recent struggles and the physical toll the sport has taken on his body. In the video announcing his retirement, Nadal said, ‘Everything in life has a beginning and an end. I feel this is the right time to end a career that has been longer and more successful than I could have imagined.

He said, ‘I am very excited that my last tournament will be the Davis Cup final, in which I will represent my country. I feel like I have come full circle because one of my first joys as a professional tennis player was the Davis Cup final in 2004.’
