Tottenham Hotspur are back in Premier League this weekend

Pressure continues to grow on Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou. They were beaten 2-1 by fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The London outfit also lost in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool last Thursday night. It has been a tough week for them and they will hope their fortunes can change soon.

Spurs are sat in 14th place in the table as they look to rise up the league. They are back in action on Sunday with a home clash against Manchester United.

Manchester United injury news ahead of Tottenham Hotspur trip

Starting with the visitors, Manchester United have been dealt a blow with defender Lisandro Martinez is out with a long-term knee injury. His boss Ruben Amorim has said: “Licha is a difficult situation. He’s going to be out for a while. We don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s an injury that is going to take time.”

Left-back Luke Shaw continues to struggle with his fitness. He isn’t expected to be seen until the start of April which isn’t ideal.

Mason Mount is still in the treatment room and he hasn’t been able to get going since making the switch to Old Trafford from Chelsea. Amorim said at the end of December: “Several weeks. I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football, and you continue.”

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans isn’t available for the Red Devils either. It remains to be seen at this stage when the veteran defender will be fit again to play. His contract expires at the end of the season and he is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Tottenham Hotspur injury news ahead of Manchester United clash

Spurs are hoping to get a few players back this week. Postecoglou has said: “We were hoping to get a couple back for this last week and it didn’t happen. We could have risked a couple but with what’s ahead we went conservative on that. We’ll get three, maybe four, players back this week, with the possibility of one or two others in the week or two after that.“

They will need to assess the fitness of Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, Cristian Romero and Timo Werner. They have been unlucky on the selection front over recent times and could do with getting a few bodies back.

Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Dominic Solanke have been unavailable of late and the end of February is seen as the more realistic return time for the trio. In terms of more long-term absentees, they remain without Radu Dragusin and James Maddison.

Richarlison went off at Anfield last week against Liverpool. His head coach said: “It looks like his calf. It didn’t look too good after the game. He was emotional last night because he’d worked really hard to get back. It’s another setback. We’re going to have to deal with him and get him back.”
