Don’t try to be Warner: Usman Khawaja’s advice to new entry McSweeney

New Delhi : Experienced Australian opening batsman Usman Khawaja Has appealed to his new opening partner Nathan McSweeney not to emulate David Warner. Regarding Warner, Khawaja said that not everyone has the talent like his former opening partner, who was able to change gears with ease in a traditional setting. He said Davy (Warner) was special. He could score runs in any situation. Sometimes he used to score 100 runs in 100 balls but sometimes it took him 170, 180 balls to achieve it.

Khawaja expressed hope that McSweeney can also score runs at a reasonable pace. He said that I think Nathan is a really good batsman. He can score runs. These are really important aspects in Test cricket if you want to set up the game. Khawaja informed McSweeney that “there are no guarantees in cricket” but the 25-year-old batsman “doesn’t need to do anything different” in a Test setting. Khawaja said he would just have to try to repeat the process.

Khawaja concluded – Even though there are no guarantees, I am sure the selectors have taken a thoughtful decision about him. In cricket you always go through ups and downs, but when you look at Nathan, you look at his demeanour, you look at the way he plays, you feel that yes, this guy is the test and test of Test cricket. Will be able to handle the pressure of cricket for a long time.
