Armed with a 3-0 victory in the previous meeting last week, Petrokimia Gresik appeared full of confidence when facing the Indonesian Navy which was again handled by coach Mohammad Ansori.
Supported by hundreds of supporters, the hosts appeared to put pressure through attacks by Mediyoku, Nandita Ayu, Putri Agustin, and two middleblockers Dhea Cahya Pitaloka and Shella Bernadetha.
From the first to the third set, Petrokimia Gresik’s children always excelled in scoring points. Even in the second and third sets, the defending champions had a lead of more than seven points over the Indonesian Navy.
“Today the children didn’t make many mistakes, receiving and defense also worked well,” said Ayub Hidayat.
Indonesian Navy women’s team coach Mohammad Ansori admitted that Nurlaili Kusuma’s absence had a big impact on his team’s strength. However, the opportunity to qualify for the grand final is still open.
“Our defense was a bit loose, but overall our opponents played well. Tomorrow we have to play even better,” said Ansori, who was unable to accompany his players in the first round of the final four.
