Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Jonatan Christie advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 China Masters after defeating home player Lu Guang Zu. The Indonesian men’s singles won straight games 21-8 and 21-19 at Shenzhen Gymnasium, Thursday (21/11).
Apart from the top eight in the 2024 China Masters, this result also made Jonatan Christie successful in avenging two defeats from Lu Guang Zu. Previously, the badminton player who is familiarly called Jojo lost at the Denmark Open and Indonesia Masters this year.
“Thank God we can avenge the two previous defeats against Lu Guang Zu,” said Jonathan after competing for 40 minutes.
Even though he won two straight games, the All England champion admitted that he was quite surprised by the change in the shuttlecock. “Compared to the first match last Tuesday, today the pace is faster,” said Jonathan.
“Luckily, the strategy and adjustments were able to get into the pattern, how to speed up the tempo that made him uncomfortable and in the end a lot of returns came out.”
“In the second game, we learned from previous experience. When you are ahead and starting to be caught up, don’t let your focus drop, think “come on, this is a critical point, an important point, don’t slack off,” added Jonatan.
