Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani made another surprise at the 2024 China Masters. This time, the Indonesian men’s doubles defeated seventh seed from Malaysia Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin.
To beat Goh/Nur, Sabar/Reza had to fight for one hour and four minutes at the Shenzhen Gymnasium, Friday (22/11). This pair won the rubber game 18-21, 21-19, and 23-21.
“It’s not an easy game. Thank God we were able to reach the semifinals of the first Super 750,” said Sabar after the match.
“It was a high-tension match, very fierce from start to finish. We just felt lucky in the final points because the game was balanced,” Reza added.
“From the first meeting in 2022, actually nothing has changed too much from their typical game. However, this time we have more desire to win to chase tickets to the World Tour Finals,” said Reza again.
Sabar/Reza revealed that they had anticipated Goh/Nur’s game. “With the shuttlecock’s speed being quite fast, we definitely have to anticipate the serve and return of serve. Din/Fei have an advantage there and when we can reduce it, it is very profitable to win the match,” said Sabar.
Previously, in the round of 16 of the China Masters, Sabar/Reza overthrew the first seeds and host champions, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang. They won 21-10 and 21-16.
These results increased Sabar/Reza’s confidence. “Beating the first seed yesterday was one of the reasons our confidence increased. As professional players, we were able to win against them, we could compete. This is a positive thing that we want to continue to maintain consistency,” said Sabar.
Regarding the victory celebration, Sabar said: “Stephen Curry is one of my idols, he has a typical celebration, namely “Night Night”. Towards the end of the match, I remembered that when I won.”
