Chelsea star Cole Palmer was asked about his past as a Manchester United fan after a picture of him as a youngster in a United shirt was leaked.
The 21-year-old admitted to growing up as a Red Devils fan after scoring a hat-trick against them on Sunday.
Hat-trick hero Cole Palmer scored twice deep into stoppage time on Thursday as Chelsea stunned Manchester United 4-3 last year, all but ending United’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Erik ten Hag’s men appeared set for a famous victory after storming back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 in a staggering game containing a combined 47 shots. But Palmer had the last word, levelling from the penalty spot in the 100th minute and then netting the winner moments later.
The 21-year-old has become a star for Chelsea but was asked an awkward question after making the Red Devils suffer. A picture of the England midfielder as a youngster in a United shirt was leaked and he was asked if he was a fan.
“Yeah, when I was growing up I was a United fan. I just think to try and do the same thing to each time. But I’ve scored away and a few here today, so I’m buzzing. I just try and take each game as it comes and show the Chelsea fans and everyone what I came here to do and that is just play football,” he told reporters.
Man United urged to sign Cole Palmer
Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen has questioned why his former club didn’t pursue Cole Palmer, who has become a breakout star at Chelsea.
Palmer, a Manchester City academy graduate, moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023 and has since become a key player for the Blues, prompting Meulensteen to criticise United’s transfer strategy.

Meulensteen, who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson for twelve years, believes Palmer, a confessed Manchester United fan, should have been a target for the Red Devils.
He highlighted the hypothetical impact of other top players at United, such as Erling Haaland, Rodri, and Phil Foden, before focusing on Palmer.
“When it comes to missing out on players, look at Cole Palmer. Why did he end up at Chelsea when he is a Manchester United fan? Why did United not pick him up,” Meulensteen stated in an interview with OLBG.
United spent £60 million on Mason Mount from Chelsea in the same summer window, a move that hasn’t yet yielded the desired results.
Meulensteen suggests that acquiring Palmer, who effectively filled the void left by Mount at Chelsea, could have been a more effective move for United.
