“Although Amad scored the quickest hat-trick against us but he wasn’t Man United’s best player on the pitch, their best player was that guy and he really made me restless…I will never forget”: Southampton coach Ivan Juric names ONE Man United’s player who was the real threat to their defence during their clash with The Reds

The first professional hat-trick of Amad’s career saved Manchester United from an embarrassing defeat against the Premier League’s bottom club Southampton.

He scored all three of his goals in the last 10 minutes to spare the blushes of Ruben Amorim, whose team had been dominated in the first hour of the match and went behind after a first-half Manuel Ugarte own goal.

It was a deserved lead for Southampton, who scored their first goal from a corner this season, Tyler Dibling’s flick-on hitting Ugarte’s back and beating Andre Onana.

The United goalkeeper probably should have kept it out, but he had already kept Ruben Amorim’s men in the game with a string of excellent first-half saves.

Ruben Amorim speaks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe after Manchester United defeat Southampton

Ruben Amorim spoke with Sir Jim Ratcliffe following Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Thursday night.

Ratcliffe — whose INEOS group controls football operations at the club — watched United from the stands for the first time since last month’s Manchester derby triumph, in which Amad also starred.

“I had five minutes with him to talk about different things and the game,” Amorim said following the match. “The result helped the conversation!

“We continue doing our job. Today the win was more important, I know the fans want to see so much better football but we need to win games. We managed to win and we are going to prepare the next game.”
