Ruben Amorim has revealed part of the conversation that he had with legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of the Brighton match.
The 39-year-old Portuguese coach has become the sixth permanent Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford in 2013.
The Red Devils have failed to climb back to the top of English football in the aftermath of United’s last Premier League title in the 2012-13 campaign.
Ferguson, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, led the Red Devils to all 13 of their Premier League trophies during his 26-year reign.
The 83-year-old iconic Scotsman has remained an ever-present figure at Old Trafford after his retirement and has often been spotted at United matches.
Ruben Amorim oversaw United’s first defeat of 2025 on Sunday afternoon after Brighton secured a 3-1 Premier League win at the Theatre of Dreams.
Ferguson’s message to Amorim
Manchester United paid a heartfelt tribute to Denis Law at Old Trafford on Sunday after the Red Devils legend passed away last Friday at the age of 84.
Sir Alex Ferguson laid a wreath in the memory of United legend Denis Law before the kick-off for the Premier League match against Brighton.
The former United manager also shared a touching reunion on the pitch with ex-Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck, who previously played under Ferguson at United.
Ferguson crossed paths with Amorim before he took his seat at Old Trafford and the legendary Scot and the United manager could be seen chatting away.
Speaking after the Brighton match, Amorim insisted that the Aberdeen and United legend had a clear-cut message for him during part of their interaction.
When discussing what Ferguson told him, the United boss told BBC Radio 5 Live (via the Metro): “Keep positive.”
Ferguson’s tribute to Man Utd legend Law
Denis Law was the final member of United’s beloved ‘Holy Trinity’ to pass away and his death was met with a flood of tributes inside the footballing world.
George Best passed away in 2005 at the age of 59 and fellow United legend Sir Bobby Charlton died in 2023 at the age of 86.
Speaking to MUTV before the Brighton match, Ferguson hailed 1964 Ballon d’Or winner Law as the “best Scottish player of all time.”
“Once you knew Denis and saw him as a player, you just thought, ‘Wow, this is a player,’” he said.
“There is a saying in Scotland, ‘Who do you think you are? Denis Law?’
“He was the best Scottish player of all time. He was a fantastic player.
“He epitomises Scotland, fighting away, having a fight in an empty house. He was an incredible human being.”
