Mathys Tel sparked a transfer frenzy on Friday evening as the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal were given hope after he snubbed Tottenham Hotspur.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed earlier this week that Tottenham and Bayern Munich had verbally agreed a £60million deal for Tel.

But despite Daniel Levy flying to Munich for face-to-face talks with Tel and his agent, Tottenham were turned down by the Bayern Munich ace.

This led to renewed interest from the likes of Arsenal, while Manchester United made Tel an “attractive option to play straight away”, as per TBR Football sources.

Now, Tel is reported to have made a decision on his future ahead of the January transfer window closing on Monday.

Mathys Tel could now be set to stay at Bayern Munich until the summer
It looks as though the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa could now experience the same outcome as Tottenham with regards to Mathys Tel’s future.

This is because, in talks with Tottenham, Tel indicated that he intends to stay at Bayern and reassess his future in the summer, according to The Athletic.

Tottenham had deals in place with Bayern, Tel and his representatives, but the player ultimately indicated a wish to remain in Munich, added the report.

Tel’s apparent U-turn
Tel had signalled his intent to leave Bayern earlier this month and, as late as Wednesday, director of football Max Eberl admitted that Tel wanted to move away.

Speaking after the Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, Eberl said: “Mathys Tel wants to leave… so we will assess all the options and decide what to do. I can understand him.”

TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed on Friday that some members of Bayern’s hierarchy were unsure whether they should let Tel leave at all.

TBR Football sources understood that, if Bayern were going to let him go, they were thinking of only letting him leave on loan without a permanent option.

Now, it looks as though Tel may have also made a U-turn – at least for the time being – along with the Bayern hierarchy.

It remains to be seen whether there any more twists and turns from now until Monday and, if not, the transfer saga is likely to come alive again in the summer.
