“I’m ready to terminate my contract with Newcastle and join Arsenal but on ONE condition”: Newcastle United’s superstar Alexander Isak has named ONE thing Arsenal must do if they really want him
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, but Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed they would be a more likely destination.

The towering Swede has been nothing short of sensational for the Magpies since his switch to St. James’ Park in 2022, bagging an impressive 10 Premier League goals in his first 22 matches and poking home 21 in 30 the following season. This term, the 25-year-old’s boots have been on fire once again, with a tally of 17 in 23 helping to keep Eddie Howe’s team in the hunt for a Champions League spot next year.
Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, are feeling the pinch at present with injury woes hitting hard – Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz out for the long haul while Bukayo Saka is also sidelined. And as a result, rumours are swirling that the Gunners may make a beeline for Isak when the summer transfer window rolls around.
But Liverpool legend Carragher took a different view on the It’s Called Soccer! podcast last week, insisting (via Football London): “I don’t really get all the talk about going to Arsenal. I know Arsenal would love him, but one thing I would say as well, Arsenal aren’t the only team that need a centre-forward. Liverpool need one as well.
“I think in the summer, Liverpool will be in the market for a centre-forward. So I think if he was available, there’s no doubt Arsenal would go for him, but I think Liverpool would be part of that queue as well.
“The problem you’ve got with Real Madrid is they’ve got [Kylian] Mbappe, Barcelona I’m not sure have the money – but they probably would be in the market for a centre-forward because you think of the age of [Robert] Lewandowski. But if he’s to leave Newcastle, he has to go to a team that has a realistic chance of winning the Champions League because that’s how good he is.”
In another chat, Carragher also noted how Liverpool could potentially swoop in for Isak before Arsenal could seal the deal. He explained: “You know the talk about Isak. There’s a lot of talk about Isak. There’s a feeling that Arsenal are going to sign him or that they need to sign him. As an Arsenal fan, do you think that’s realistic?
“He’s got three years left on his contract. Liverpool are desperate for a centre-forward as well but there’s no talk of Liverpool getting him. So I don’t know where all this talk of Arsenal signing Isak is coming from. Liverpool need one as well and if they win the league and Isak was going to leave, surely you pick the team who wins the league.
“I don’t get it. It’s not realistic for Arsenal, is it? Are Arsenal paying £130m for him?” With Isak tied down until summer 2028, any club looking to nab him from Newcastle faces a Herculean task, especially considering his hefty £124m valuation and his apparent happiness on Tyneside.
Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League under Arne Slot, a comfortable seven points ahead of second-place Arsenal after 25 matches. However, they’re not without their own issues. Star man Mohamed Salah is out of contract in the summer and is yet to pen a new deal. With an impressive tally of 28 goals in all competitions this season, the 32-year-old Egyptian’s departure would leave a significant gap in Liverpool’s attack that they might look to Isak to fill.
