[3-4-1-2]: Zirkzee and Chido-Obi to partner, Casemiro start and Ayden Heaven returns- Manchester United’s predicted lineups against Lyon as Ruben Amorim confirms three major changes ahead of the clash

Luke Shaw could be in line for his first Manchester United minutes of the year in the Europa League quarter-final first leg with Lyon on Thursday.

Shaw has struggled tremendously with injuries this season and has managed just 98 minutes of football throughout the entire season.

The England left-back was last seen coming off the bench for Ruben Amorim’s side in a 4-0 win over Everton at the start of December last year.

But Shaw has now finally returned to full fitness and returned to the matchday squad for the first time this year for Sunday’s drab Manchester Derby.

The 29-year-old could replace Patrick Dorgu at left wing-back as the Red Devils face off against Lyon in a crucial Europa League clash.

United’s only hope of securing European football next season is by winning the Europa League and they are yet to lose a game in the tournament so far.

Along with Shaw, Mason Mount could also be in line for a welcome return to the starting XI having made two appearances off the bench in recent games.

Mount, who last started a game in December 2024, has worked his way back from a serious hamstring injury and could start in midfield if Amorim decides to rotate his side.

Elsewhere for United, Harry Maguire is fit and in contention to start in the heart of defence on Thursday.

The centre-back was withdrawn on the hour mark on Sunday, but Amorim has since confirmed that the Englishman has not picked up a serious injury.

Maguire could resume his partnership with Leny Yoro and Noussair Mazraoui in defence, while Victor Lindelof is also an option.

Matthijs de Ligt missed Sunday’s game against Manchester City due to an ankle injury and is perhaps unlikely to be passed fit in time to return on Thursday. Fellow defenders Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans also remained sidelined with longer-term injuries.

Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo are also unlikely to feature for Amorim’s side, although the former was seen in training on Wednesday morning.

Chido Obi has not been registered to compete in the Europa League and so will drop out of the matchday squad.

Predicted Man Utd XI to face Lyon
Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Casemiro, Shaw; Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund.
