DONE DEAL: Man United’s finally completes first summer transfer signing as superstar attacker joins on five-years transfer deal

Manchester United may have sealed their first summer signing before their calamitous Premier League campaign comes to an end this weekend.

Indeed, the Red Devils are now on the cusp of reaching a full agreement with Matheus Cunha, who, according to Fabrizio Romano, has ‘decided to join’ the club irrespective of whether they seal Champions League qualification tonight.

Romano adds that the Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman ‘wants the move’, with talks now ‘at the final stages’ and expected to be ‘sealed soon’.

Matheus Cunha sets sights on Old Trafford switch

United will have to activate Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to get the deal over the line, although they have the option of paying the sum in instalments – as they did with Joshua Zirkzee’s transfer fee last year.

The forward’s sheer dedication to joining the club regardless of their European situation will already set him off on the right foot with the Old Trafford faithful, as the same cannot be said of the likes of targets Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres.

How Cunha has fared throughout 2024/2025
Cunha, 25, is enjoying a career-best campaign this season, having notched 15 goals and six assists in 32 Premier League appearances, as well as an additional two goals in the two FA Cup matches he played.

Ruben Amorim will know all too well just how dangerous the Brazilian can be in attack, given Cunha recorded two goal contributions (one goal and one assist) to aid Wolves’ league double over United this season.

When he also scored and assisted in a 2-0 win over Southampton in September, Micah Richards singled him out for high praise on Match of the Day, saying: “His football IQ is absolutely sensational.

“He’s the one who can unlock the doors. He finds the little pockets of space and makes the right decisions at the right times.

“He’s always scanning where he needs to be and always plays the right pass. He is so key in what Wolves are trying to do. He is the best at everything.”
