OFFER ACCEPTED: Man United offered two first-team players in exchange for Europe’s most dangerous striker

Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has dealt a major blow to their plans for next season.

What could have been a gateway to Champions League football and a revitalized summer strategy has now turned into a hard reset.

Trophyless and finishing 16th in the Premier League, United are facing one of their most challenging off-seasons in recent memory.

However, despite Man Utd’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, it looks like one of their summer signings has already been wrapped up. As per today’s version of The i Paper, the Red Devils’ deal for Matheus Cunha is all but done.

The report has actually mentioned that the signing could be announced as soon as Sunday or in the following week. Cunha’s £62.5m deal has always been in place, irrespective of whether or not Man Utd had European football next season.

Cunha has been in brilliant form
The Brazilian attacker has been in very good form so far this season, and Wolves have done well thanks to his form. The 25-year-old has played 35 games across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists.

Cunha moved to Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2023. The Brazilian did not have as well-rounded a game as he does now back when he played under Diego Simeone’s team but he will be moving to Man Utd now at the perfect stage in his career.

Ruben Amorim likes to deploy a 3-4-2-1 system at Man Utd. In his current squad, he doesn’t have the right kind of personnel to effectively use this setup but Cunha would definitely be a step in the right direction in this regard.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on European football, Manchester United appear to be moving swiftly in the transfer market. The imminent arrival of Matheus Cunha, regardless of continental competition, signals intent.

At 25 and in the best form of his career, the Brazilian could bring much-needed creativity and versatility to Ruben Amorim’s system. With a £62.5 million deal reportedly close to completion, Cunha could be the first key piece in what needs to be a transformative summer at Old Trafford.
