Man Utd have a huge job on their hands this upcoming summer as they try to lure players to Old Trafford without being able to offer them European football.
For the first time in many years, the club won’t be playing in any of the European competitions next season.
This has been a dismal season for the Red Devils, whichever angle you want to look at it from. It would have still been dismal even if they had beaten Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final but they failed to do that at Bilbao.
What this means is that Man Utd now need to get creative with their signings this summer. One player that the club was linked with last year was Bologna forward Dan Ndoye, who the Red Devils wanted, but the transfer did not go through.
Now, as per Tutto Sport, Man Utd have to agree £34m deal to finally sign the talented 24-year-old winger.
He has enjoyed a brilliant season for the Italian club, where he scored the winning goal against AC Milan to win the Coppa Italia for Bologna. It was their first piece of silverware in more than 50 years.
The Switzerland international has played 40 games across all competitions this season, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists.
He is extremely versatile and is equally comfortable playing on the right or left side of attack, even though he is predominantly right-footed.
In Ruben Amorim’s system, the obvious solution would be for Ndoye to occupy one of the front two roles in a 3-4-2-1. However, with some modifications to his game, the 24-year-old can also be used as the right wing-back in Manchester.
Ndoye is not a name that makes many headlines, and is an unknown commodity outside the Serie A. The talented youngster might be jumping at the opportunity of playing for a club like Man Utd and it would give his career a launchpad.
It remains to be seen if the club manage to convince Ndoye to come to Old Trafford, especially with Juve lurking. It will be far from straightforward for the English club to pull this transfer off and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
