BID ACCEPTED: Manchester United’s £104million bid for for elite striker has been accepted- Player has agreed personal terms and the medical will be done today

Manchester United are in dire need of a striker after a treacherous season in the Premier League under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim – yet despite reports linking them with the signings of Viktor Gyokeres, it’s a different striker who has excelled in Europe that they should be looking at.

United scored just 44 goals in the top-flight last season, with Everton and the three relegated sides being the only sides to have been less prolific in the final third in terms of goals scored. That has forced Amorim to search for a new striker in the transfer market, and although they’ve signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, more firepower will be needed in the coming weeks.

Man Utd Should Opt for Jonathan David Move Instead of Gyokeres

He’s been dubbed as ‘one of the best strikers in the world’

A move for Liam Delap was hijacked by Chelsea, with the Ipswich Town star opting for a move to Stamford Bridge instead of Old Trafford for a £30million fee – and that has left United scrambling for another forward.

Gyokeres has been linked after his two sterling years at Sporting, with one of those being directly under Amorim’s supervision as Sporting won the Primeira Liga for the second time with the Red Devils boss in the dugout. But with the Swedish star set to potentially cost over £60million, it should see United snub a deal and aim to sign Lille star Jonathan David, who is set to depart on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

David joined the French club from Belgian outfit Gent in 2020, having scored 30 goals in 60 games for the one-time Pro League winners – and that form has more than continued in his time in Ligue 1 with 109 goals in 232 games for the club in all competitions.

Dubbed as ‘one of the best strikers in the world’ and “in Europe”, the Canada international has been a consistent scorer in league competitions throughout his career, never scoring less than 12 goals in a single league campaign for Gent, and 13 for Lille – including a career-best 24 for Lille in the 2022/23 season.

That, alongside 34 goals for Canada in just 62 games, means that the Brooklyn-born striker has been an incredible signing for both clubs after moving to Europe at the age of 18.

David is Open to Joining Manchester United

David is out of contract in the summer, and he’s been linked with various Premier League and European sides in the process. Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Liverpool, Napoli and Inter Milan have all been touted with moves for his services at certain points of the campaign, and so United would likely need to act quickly to sign the ‘superstar’.

But one of the key facets over a potential move to Old Trafford is that David would be keen to join the Red Devils, per GMS sources. A 25-year-old striker on a free transfer, who has boasted an incredible goalscoring record throughout his career, is never a deal to be sniffed at – and it would save United vital funds going forward in terms of strengthening in other positions.

Of course, Gyokeres’ form is admirable, and the Swedish star would be an absolute fan favourite at Old Trafford, as well as denying other clubs the opportunity to boast his services – but David is another player that shouldn’t be sniffed at, given he would boost United’s attack immensely.
