HERE WE GO: Manchester United agree transfer fee to sign Premier League midfielder as the star becomes the most expensive signing in English football history- Medical currently ongoing

Manchester United are ramping up interest in making Viktor Gyokeres this summer’s next big signing.

Ineos has wasted no time this summer in strengthening Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Despite the normal transfer window opening on the 16th of June, after the Club World Cup window, which ran from the 1st to the 10th of June, Manchester United have already signed Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian arrives with Premier League pedigree, and he could soon be joined by Bryan Mbeumo, who United remain in talks to sign from Brentford.

In addition, United are plotting a move to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting; however, a deal has become complicated.

The Portuguese side has raised their asking price, with Gyokeres left fuming and threatening to go on strike if the club doesn’t sell him for an agreed £59m. However, the Sporting president has fired back at Gyokeres, saying there was never an agreement and telling the Swede that threats won’t get him anywhere.

This has not put United off.

Manchester United expected to present Viktor Gyokeres offer to Sporting CP
The chances of Manchester United signing Gyokeres this summer sit firmly at the 50 per cent mark, with things going both for and against the signing of Portuguese football’s star man.

Despite all the drama around the player’s future, United are not stepping away if reports in Portugal are to be believed, but are now taking steps toward the deal.

This comes according to the Record, which claims that United are set to make an official proposal to Sporting CP in the next few hours after having met with the Sweden international’s agent.

United have competition, as Arsenal also met with Gyokeres’ agent this week, according to the report, and are ready to make their move as well for the 54-goal phenomenon.

How much could Sporting CP demand for Viktor Gyokeres?

The statement from the Sporting president made it clear that they will not accept an offer which is £50m with another £8.7m in add-ons, equalling the £59m reported fee.

This is a fair stance, considering Gyokeres has positioned himself as one of the world’s best strikers over the past two years, and his goals are irreplaceable for Sporting.

However, in the statement on Wednesday, Frederico Varandas suggested that €80m might be a figure they consider, which is roughly £68m, an amount that is probably beyond what Ineos will want to spend on the 26-year-old.

United, however, may be able to offer part in bonuses and also spread the cost in installments, with a £60m + £8m sounding like a deal which could suit all parties.

It is assumed that sales will need to occur for United to complete this deal along with Mbeumo, but for this fee, if Gyokeres scores like he has been for two years, it will be a bargain.
