MEDICAL COMPLETED: Another Premier League superstar completes medical to join Manchester United as the club planning to officially announce the transfer tomorrow

Manchester United have a golden opportunity to bring Douglas Luiz back to the Premier League at a relatively low price.

Despite missing out on European football next season, MUFC have been extremely busy on the market, and have already unveiled their first signing on Thursday in the shape of Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils will keep pushing to recruit Bryan Mbeumo in addition to a new centre-forward, potentially a new goalkeeper who can be an upgrade on Andre Onana, and a central midfielder to replace Christian Eriksen.

In recent weeks, Man Utd have been keeping tabs on Luiz who is seemingly itching to make his return to England.

The Brazilian is a Manchester City youth product who made the move to Aston Villa in 2019 in search of a prominent role.

The 27-year-old eventually became a massive hit at Villa Park. Last season, he contributed with 10 goals and as many assists in all competitions, playing an instrumental role in the club’s Champions League qualification.

The midfielder’s exploits in Birmingham earned him a transfer to Juventus last summer. The Bianconeri splashed £42 million to secure Douglas’ services, albeit this figure includes the values of Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea, two young players who moved in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately for Luiz, his first campaign in Italy was utterly disastrous. He struggled to cope with the new training system, and often appeared short on fitness. This also caused a series of muscle injuries which was made only worse by recurring relapses.

In the end, the Brazil international only made three Serie A appearances as a starter, and didn’t make a single direct goal contribution in his 26 outings in all competitions. This has been a major setback for the player who was once described as ‘better than Declan Rice’ by former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.

Juventus set asking price for Luiz

According to GiveMeSport, Juventus have no intention to retain Luiz for next season, so they have decided to place him on the transfer list. They are willing to entertain offers as low as £30 million.

The source identifies United as one of the player’s main suitors, but also mentions Nottingham Forest and a return to Aston Villa as alternative solutions while ruling out a move to Tottenham.

United are primarily focusing on strengthening their attack at the moment, but we can expect them to accelerate their pursuit of a new midfielder over the coming weeks. They have also been linked to another Brazilian who plays for Serie A in the shape of Atalanta’s Ederson.
