MEDICAL COMPLETED: Another Premier League superstar completes medical to join Arsenal as the club planning to officially announce the transfer tomorrow
Arsenal and United are thought to be the leading candidates in the race for his signature. Reports across the summer have suggested that Gyokeres’ preferred destination is the Emirates Stadium, thanks to Arsenal having qualified for the Champions League – however, with United having seen clubs fail to agree a fee, they may feel the time is right to strike.
A disagreement with Gyokeres and the Sporting president means the former Brighton striker’s price tag is so far unknown, and both Premier League clubs will need to make sure what they are paying before striking – and Romano believes that once that happens, they both remain keen and in contact with his camp over a deal that could edge closer. He wrote in his GIVEMESPORT transfer newsletter:
“First thing to do is clarifying the exit price from Sporting after trouble with the president. Both Arsenal and Man United remain keen and in contact with his camp.”
Gyokeres has 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting since joining in July 2023, being named as the ‘world’s best striker’ for his endeavours – and now seems the right time to move back to England.
Ruben Amorim will look to tempt his former star with a move to Old Trafford after seeing his strikeforce of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee notch just a combined seven goals in the top-flight, whilst Mikel Arteta needs an out-and-out striker after the injuries afforded to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus earlier in the season.
