TERMS AGREED: Manchester United finally reached agreement to sign a lethal striker after so many months of negotiation
Manchester United are looking to rebuild their squad this summer, and they have already started with the purchase of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m.
However, they are keen to add more attacking talent, alongside a goalkeeper and improvements in midfield too.
With that in mind, Ruben Amorim will need to identify players that he can sell in order to boost their transfer budget. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho have already been picked for sales this summer.
However, Amorim will need more money if he wants to bring in the likes of VIktor Gyokeres, Bryan Mbeumo, and Emiliano Martinez, all of whom have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
Man United “prepared” to sell Mason Mount
Midfielder Mason Mount came with a lot of expectation when the Red Devils bought him from rivals Chelsea in 2023 for £58m. However, his poor form, and injury struggles have caused him to fall down the pecking order in Amorim’s squad.
Mount made just 26 appearances in all competitions for United last season, scoring three goals and failing to provide an assist. His market value is now estimated at £24m, and his future remains very uncertain.
According to former United scout Mick Brown, the Red Devils are willing to sell Mount this summer in order to generate more transfer funds, as Amorim now views him as surplus to requirements.
Brown told Football Insider: “There is a possibility Mason Mount is sold. They put a lot of stock into getting him fit again and getting him back to where he was. He’s played a number of games in succession now, but I think Amorim has made the decision that he doesn’t think he’s good enough.
“If they feel they can move him on and there’s enough interest, they’re prepared to do it. United will do the same thing with a few of their fringe players if offers are made. They’ve got Cunha and probably Mbeumo coming in to play in the positions he was being used in, so that is a sign of where he ranks in the squad.
“It’s a shame he’s had these injuries since he arrived from Chelsea because there is a top player in there. United just feel they can improve in that position and that may mean moving him on.”
If United are able to secure the signing of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo on top of the Cunha signing, there would be a distinct lack of opportunity for Mount at Old Trafford, so a move away might be beneficial for both United and the player.
Where could Mason Mount go this summer?
As things stand, there has been no reported interest in Mount, but seeing as he is a player with plenty of talent, and a vast amount of experience playing both Premier League and Champions League football, he would be a good addition for any top English club.
Teams such as Everton, West Ham, and Wolves could all be good landing spots for Mount, as they would give him the opportunity to become somewhat of a leader in their teams as they aim to move up the Premier League table.
Furthermore, the likes of Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland could also go after the former Chelsea star, in order to bring in some much-needed experience as they aim to buck the trend and stay up after promotion from the Championship.
Alternatively, Mount could opt to join a team higher up the Premier League as more of a depth player, but seeing as his chances of getting back into the England squad rest on his availability and game time, moving to a lower Premier League team would seem a more likely move.
