Deal Completed: Manchester United splashes £115m to complete long-term transfer target who has officially joined the club on a five-years transfer deal

Manchester United and Ruben Amorim have a huge summer ahead of them where reinforcements are the need of the hour. However, signings cannot happen without sales being made.

There are a number of players in the current squad who are either past their prime or not of the desired quality to play for a club of Man Utd’s stature. Thus, Amorim has a few difficult decisions to make.

One player that Ruben Amorim doesn’t seemingly trust, as evidenced by the fact that he was left out of the matchday squad for the final game of the Premier League season, is shot-stopper Andre Onana.

The Cameroonian moved from Inter Milan to Man Utd a couple of seasons ago with huge expectations and the gigantic task of fill the boots of the departing David de Gea. It is safe to say that he has failed, thus far.

Now, as per Portuguese outlet A Bola, Ruben Amorim is pressing to sign his compatriot Diogo Costa from FC Porto this summer, due to a lack of trust in the existing options. The Portuguese international is currently nursing an injury, which has seen him miss out on CWC action.

Costa is said to have a release clause in his contract worth 75 million euros but it is being mentioned that he would be allowed to leave for a fee of around (60 million euros) £51m, which is something that Man Utd should be able to afford.

Diogo Costa is the perfect example of a modern-day shot-stopper. He is equally comfortable at playing with his feet as he is with saving shots and he would be a valuable addition to the team.

Ultimately, it could all come down to whether or not Man Utd are able to shift Onana out during the transfer window. If they manage to do that, then Costa becomes a realistic signing. It remains to be seen how it pans out.
