Deal Completed: Manchester United has just completed another transfer signing as £100million winger as the tricky star finally agree five-years deal to join

Manchester United are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Diego Leon, who is set to join the club from Cerro Porteno.

Diego Leon was signed by Manchester United in the winter transfer window from Cerro Porteno in Paraguay, where he emerged as one of the most exciting prospects.

The 18-year-old made history when he signed a contract to join United this summer, by becoming the first signing of 2025 following the departure of Dan Ashworth as sporting director.

Jason Wilcox has since moved into Ashworth’s role by becoming director of football, so he played a big part in the negotiation process to bring the exciting left-back to Old Trafford.

Ineos have been focused on adding young talent to the team since Sir Jim Ratcliffe bought a minority share in the club. We’ve already seen proof of that with the arrivals of Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Leny Yoro.

That is likely to continue this season and United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves, after the Brazilian scored 17 goals in the Premier League last term.

It’s about signing players that will improve the team and time will tell if Leon will do that under Ruben Amorim.

Diego Leon finally set to become a Man Utd player

It’s only been months, but it would have felt like a long wait for Diego Leon to become a Manchester United player.

Leon’s performances at Cerro Porteno are the reason he can secure himself a move to Old Trafford, but the hard work starts now.

Leon is expected to get a chance to impress Amorim on pre-season this summer, though it remains to be seen if the Portuguese head coach will send the left-back on loan to gain first-team experience.

United have plenty of options at left-back, including Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass, so there will be plenty of cover in the position. Amorim can also call upon the likes of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui to play the role.

In the past, Leon has described his move to United as a dream.

Paraguayan journalist Uriel Lugt was at the airport to take a picture of Leon and his parents ahead of a flight to England, where he will finally join United before beginning preparations for the new season.

It remains to be seen if Leon will be part of the United squad that faces Arsenal on the first weekend of the new league season.
Earlier reports suggested Leon wouldn’t arrive until the second week of July, which is when the first team will resume training at Carrington.

This means the Leon announcement is imminent.

Man Utd are covered at left-back
Leon’s addition means Amorim will be well stocked in the left-back department next season.

That wasn’t the case when Amorim became United head coach back in November.
