Following weeks of negotiating, Viktor Gyokeres finally secured his long-awaited transfer to Arsenal.

Sporting made the deal for Gyokeres tough, but finally agreed to sell him to Arsenal for a deal worth around £64 million.

In a bid to force through the deal, Gyokeres refused to turn up for training to increase the pressure on the Portuguese club to reach an agreement.

Gyokeres also offered to reduce his salary demands in an attempt to bring down the costs of a deal for the Gunners.

It was a stressful few months for the striker, as his agent has revealed, but he has finally secured his dream move to Arsenal.

Viktor Gyokeres was quite grumpy during Arsenal negotiations

Viktor Gyokeres’ manager, Jonathan Chalkias, has revealed how his player was quite grumpy during negotiations to take him to Arsenal.

Sporting’s firm stance on selling Gyokeres worried him that the deal might fall through, and subsequently, the player became quite stressed.

The Swede’s manager claims that they can now joke about the situation, with the transfer to the North London club having finally been completed.

Chalkias told Wenstrom Television: “How has he reacted? He hasn’t been in his best mood all the time. He can be quite grumpy sometimes.

“You’ve said good morning, and you get an ‘mmm’ back. We’ve joked about it quite a few times.”

Meanwhile, Gyokeres added: “Living in that uncertainty for so long has been quite demanding mentally. It’s been tough, but I guess it makes you tougher, too. To be able to play for Arsenal, now I’m ready to go.”

The club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, thanked Gyokeres for his efforts in helping make the move happen, with the Italian having worked so hard to sign him.

Berta led Arsenal’s push for Gyokeres, with the club’s scouting team having wanted to sign Benjamin Sesko instead.

Gyokeres is expected to make his debut against Tottenham in the first North London derby to be played outside of the UK.

Gyokeres has wasted no time in getting to work with his new Arsenal teammates as he joined his first session on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old made a quick impression in front of supporters in Hong Kong with some impressive finishing at the Kai Tak Sports Park.

The Swede stunned supporters with an excellent finish as he picked out the top corner.

Mikel Arteta will hope that Gyokeres is the answer to his number nine problem and he will have his first chance to show his goal-scoring prowess against Spurs.
