Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira believes the Gunners have the credentials to win the Premier League after a huge summer spending spree.
The north London giants have made a brilliant start to the league campaign and have picked up 16 points from their first seven games.
They have a potentially winnable schedule after the international break and have the opportunity to extend their one-point lead over Liverpool at the top.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Vieira said that manager Mikel Arteta made a ‘really strong statement’ after a big spending spree over the summer transfer window.
He added that Arsenal are one of those few teams that can win the Premier League. The former club captain feels the players signed will raise the team’s quality to a ‘different level’.
Vieira told Sky Sports: “[Mikel] Arteta made a really strong statement by bringing those players [our summer signings].
“I think on the field so far that they are doing very good games and I believe Arsenal is part of those few teams that can win the Premier League.
“I think you have to believe that Arsenal will be competitive and will be there to fight until the end because the players they managed to bring will put the quality of the team in a different level.”
Arsenal were five points behind leaders Liverpool on September 21 after a 1-1 draw against Manchester City. There has been a stunning turnaround since.
Arne Slot’s side have suffered back-to-back defeats in the English top-flight, which has paved the way for the Gunners to climb to the top of the standings.
The Gunners have already made a statement with their late 2-1 comeback win at Newcastle United. They also shared the spoils against Man City with a late equaliser.
The onus is now on building a long winning streak, which would in turn put pressure on Liverpool and Man City, who are the main title contenders.
Arsenal face Fulham and Crystal Palace away and home in their next two league games. The Gunners picked up draws in those fixtures last season.
Mikel Arteta’s side must secure victories this time around to prove their title credentials.
The Gunners have most of their attacking players in good form. If Viktor Gyokeres can start scoring regularly, it would take the club to another level.
