“Although Bruno Fernandes scored the winning goal but i think that guy was the best and deserved all the praises”: Manchester United’s coach Ruben Amorim has named his own best player vs Rangers and it’s not Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United won in dramatic fashion against Rangers on Thursday night.

It wouldn’t be like Manchester United to win in any other manner.

Ruben Amorim coached a commanding performance, but his side failed to replicate this dominance on the scoresheet. Jack Butland’s own goal was not enough as Rangers equalised with minutes remaining on the clock.

However, in ‘Fergie-time’, club captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up and scored the all-important goal which handed United a 2-1 win and sealed progression in the competition.

Fernandes’ celebration said a lot about what this win meant to the squad after a difficult period over the past month. Amorim will hope this is a turning point, with multiple players stepping up after being handed opportunities.

Toby Collyer was excellent, while Alejandro Garnacho sent Ineos a statement performance – however, United’s unsung hero was at the other end of the pitch.

Altay Bayindir forces his way past Andre Onana

Eyebrows were raised when Amorim decided to start Altay Bayindir, for his first European start at United.

Andre Onana was on the bench and watched as Bayindir put in a brilliant performance that was error-free.

Bayindir was vital in the game, making six saves of which two were from shots inside the box. Despite conceding, Bayindir barely put a foot wrong, even dominating from corners.

Bayindir had 40 touches and his passing was not perfect, completing just one of six long passes – but he represented a vast improvement on Onana’s performances recently.

This performance, following Bayindir’s display against Arsenal, will put serious pressure on Onana, and we may well see the Turkish international force his way into the starting lineup.

Nobody could have seen this remontada coming.

Now, it would not be a shock to see Bayindir starting on Sunday at Craven Cottage.

Onana deserves to be replaced for Manchester United

Since joining United, we quickly became aware that Onana was susceptible to dropping the occasional clanger.

However, recently it has reached a whole new level.

Onana was terrible once again against Brighton, and this seems to have prompted Amorim to give Bayindir a chance which he snatched with both hands.

Starting Bayindir against Rangers was a bold call, however, it very well might have handed Amorim the evidence to justify dropping Onana for the foreseeable.

Against Arsenal, Bayindir saved his United career and now two weeks later he might have just played his way into being a starter.

Now we await the team selection on Sunday evening.
