Louis Saha has told Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford he only has himself to blame for the demise of his career.

Rashford has been frozen out at United after telling them he wants to quit Old Trafford. The forward is keen to find a new club in Europe after deciding he needs a new challenge.

But Saha insists no one should feel sorry for the 27-year-old because all of his current problems are self inflicted. The former United favourite told Paddy Power: “When Marcus Rashford is on top form, he can go to any club in the world.

“When he’s not on top form, we talk about everything regarding his lifestyle and attitude – he gives an opportunity for journalists to talk about that because he’s not performing on the pitch. He’s the star of this club, he was born there and has been at United his whole life, so more questions will be asked of him than Alejandro Garnacho, for example.

“Whether he stays at United will be based on his performance, not because a manager is playing his style. He has no excuses, he has to find his form, work hard and show impunity.

“If he wants to regain form to be selected for England, playing for Manchester United isn’t the problem, he has to look at himself. Rashford doesn’t need people to give him compassion, he’s that talented.

“The people that can help, whether it’s the fans, the manager, or his friends or family, have to understand that he needs to take his own responsibility, and that all the stories about him are a sign that he’s not doing the right thing. It’s not because of this or that, it’s him that needs to take the blame.”

It comes as AC Milan have let a young forward fly out to secure a transfer in Germany to potentially make room for Rashford.

Rashford has confessed that he’s ready for a fresh challenge and has been exploring potential exit strategies this month.

Milan has emerged as the most probable destination after the 27-year-old dismissed the idea of relocating to Saudi Arabia or Turkey at this point in his career. However, the financial aspect has complicated the move, with Rashford earning £325,000 per week at United until June 2028.

The Italian heavyweights are interested in an initial loan deal until the season’s end, but are reluctant to cover even half of his wages, given their top-earner, Alvaro Morata, is only on £150,000. Despite this, Milan haven’t abandoned negotiations with United and are proceeding with other business in the January window which could facilitate his arrival.

According to reports in Italy, Milan forward Noah Okafor is set to fly to Germany on Friday to sign for RB Leipzig on an initial loan deal that could become permanent for around €25million (£21m) in the summer. The Swiss forward, who joined Milan from RB Salzburg for €15.5m (£13m) in the summer of 2023, has been deemed surplus to requirements.
