DONE DEAL: Manchester United finally completes first summer transfer signing as 2-times Champions League winners joins on five-years transfer deal- Official Announcement tomorrow

Manchester United are anticipated to sign a marquee centre-forward this summer.

The Red Devils had a disappointing 2024/25 Premier League campaign, finishing 15th with just 42 points.

The club scored only 44 goals in the English top flight. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee netted just seven league goals.

United need a significant upgrade for the 2025/26 season, and Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres could be the perfect solution.

According to Portuguese outlet Record (page 5), Gyokeres’ representative held a meeting with Arsenal and United regarding a transfer yesterday.

The Premier League giants are set to ‘present’ formal offers to purchase the Sweden international in the ‘coming hours’.

Arsenal are reportedly a ‘step forward’ in the race due to Gyokeres’ apparent preference to play in the Champions League.

United must capitalise on Arsenal’s indecision to land Gyokeres
The 27-year-old had a fantastic 2024/25 season with Sporting CP. He accumulated 54 goals and registered 13 assists from 52 appearances in all competitions.

The Swede is prepared to pursue a bigger challenge away from the Portuguese champions, but he won’t come on the cheap, as Sporting CP have increased their valuation of him.

Gyokeres had a gentleman’s agreement to depart for £51 million plus £8.5m in bonuses, but the club have backpedalled from the promise with a new asking price of £68m.

The former Coventry City man is still expected to head for the exit door. Arsenal and United are keen, but the Red Devils must capitalise on the Gunners’ indecision.

Mikel Arteta’s side are workingsimultaneously on two striker targets. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is the priority for them, and negotiations are underway with the German club.

They are also exploring a deal for Gyokeres. The Swede could be a fallback option for the London giants If they can’t find a suitable agreement with Leipzig for Sesko.

The Red Devils have been in regular contact with Sporting CP over the past week. They must be proactive to beat the Gunners in the pursuit of the highly rated star.
