“If they sign that guy, there’ll be a big problem in Premier League next season unless FIFA do something”: Chelsea’s coach Enzo Maresca submit his Arsenal’s petition to FIFA after the Gunners agreed deal to hijack his top transfer target

Arsenal will take on Manchester United in the Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford this month.

Ahead of the game, the Gunners have had reasonable preparation. There are still two friendlies versus Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao to come.

Mikel Arteta’s side have made six signings so far, and there could be an addition or two to the squad before the transfer window closes.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Arsenal have already made an approach to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.

Arsenal see him as a potential signing if Oleksandr Zinchenko or Jakub Kiwior were to depart.

However, Rennes have no plans of entertaining his summer sale with the centre-back having only signed a new long-term contract in May.

The Gunners are still keen on the Frenchman and could also explore a deal next year.

Jacquet could be a potential star in future
The 20-year-old made a big impression for Rennes during the second half of last season.

Jacquet was loaned out to Clermont Font, but was recalled in January. Rennes were in dire straits and found themselves in the relegation play-off place.

The Frenchman contributed to their upturn in league form with several stand-out displays. He won 62 percent of his duels with 3.9 clearances per outing.

Jacquet also made 2.4 tackles and 2.5 interceptions per outing, and had a passing accuracy of 85 percent despite Rennes’ limited possession in the campaign.

Rennes had no qualms in handing him an improved deal until June 2029, but this could hinder his prospects of moving to Arsenal in the coming weeks.

Cristhian Mosquera was recently signed to compensate for Takehiro Tomiyasu’s free transfer, and Jacquet could be seen as a replacement for Kiwior this summer.

Kiwior has his sights on playing consistent first-team football. The 25-year-old could be permitted to leave if the club receive a serious proposal on the table.

We won’t be surprised if Arsenal test Rennes’ resolve with a late approach. Jacquet may have to play his part by pushing for a move to the Emirates Stadium.
