“Arteta still have alot to learn, the player he sold for just £10M has now scored more goals than Mo Salah this season”: Liverpool coach Arne Slot slams Mikel Arteta for selling an aggressive academy striker who’s now the best striker in Europe for just £10m last summer

Arsenal have seen their Premier League title hopes fizzle out amid an injury crisis up front this season.

The Gunners are without Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, which has left them with little firepower.

However, Arsenal were being urged to bring in some attacking reinforcements long before they found themselves in their current predicament.

For instance, Ian Wright said during the summer transfer window that Arsenal should sign cover for Saka.

Then, in the January transfer window, Wright said a new centre-forward would’ve been reassuring for Arsenal fans.

While Arsenal now find themselves toothless up front, a strujer the Gunners sold for less than £10million last summer is now on more goals than Alexander Isak.

Mika Biereth now on 24 goals for the season
The player in question is Mika Biereth, who Arsenal sold to Sturm Graz for just £4million.

Biereth, who spent the second half of 2023/24 on loan at the Austrian club, registered 23 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances for Graz over 12 months.

AS Monaco then snapped Biereth up in January, reportedly paying around £12.7million for his services.

The Denmark Under-21 international is now on 10 goals and two assists from 10 outings for Monaco.

This includes three hat-tricks, the latest of which came on Friday night as Monaco ran out 3-0 winners over Reims.

Biereth’s tally for the season, span over the two clubs he has played for, now reads 35 appearances, 24 goals and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Isak has 21 goals and five assists from 30 appearances for Newcastle United this term.

What Mika Biereth previously said about potential Arsenal return
Biereth joined Arsenal’s academy from Fulham in 2021 and made a name for himself at youth level for the Gunners, though he never made a competitive senior appearance.

Biereth previously said a return to Arsenal would be “fantastic”, but with how quickly his stock is rising, it’ll be interesting to see how much he’s worth now.

Arsenal really could’ve done with Biereth in their ranks. He could’ve been eased into action in the first half of the season and unleashed now that they really need a player like him.
