“At this point, Signing him is all I need from the club’s board”: Man United’s coach Ruben Amorim has named only ONE player he really need to sign and turn something for good as the club’s board working to get the deal done

Manchester United’s 2024/25 campaign has been a disaster, with the change of manager making virtually no difference to the fortunes thus far.

When Erik ten Hag was sacked, many anticipated Manchester United would soon shoot up the table.

Early signs under Ruben Amorim pointed toward this coming to fruition – particularly after a 4-0 thumping of Everton, however, this turned out to be a false dawn.

Since then, United have only won one Premier League game – beating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad – and now sit on a four-game losing streak, something unprecedented for the club.

Sitting 14th in the Premier League and just seven points off relegation, Amorim has explained this could be the shock United need. Despite Amorim being completely safe, Ineos will not be pleased. Now they might be aware that they have no choice but to strengthen in January.

Manchester United plan January swoop for Viktor Gyokeres

With all the struggles United have, it is hard to put a finger on one specific issue.

However, Amorim did before the Newcastle loss, as he admitted he felt his team was light up top. This claim is backed up by the stats with United not scoring in the past three games and scoring less than Wolves and Leicester this season.

To solve this, Amorim has reportedly now asked for January additions, with the Daily Star claiming he wants Viktor Gyokeres specifically.

Amorim has told Ineos that he cannot wait until the summer for Gyokeres, with the £63m valued striker viewed as a player who could turn the season around.

Gyokeres worked with Amorim at Sporting to a high degree of success – with the Swede’s form falling apart since United appointed the 39-year-old.

So a reunification would likely suit all parties, and United have been linked with Gyokeres and he could transform the striking ranks.

Ineos consider axing Joshua Zirkzee to fund Ruben Amorim’s dream move

Signing a striker like Gyokeres would instantly elevate the team, with current options of an incredibly raw Rasmus Hojlund and a struggling Joshua Zirkzee.

Additionally, Amorim could be seeing Marcus Rashford exit, leaving him short of firepower.

Gyokeres is on a whole other level, and in a bid to get this done, with TuttoSport reporting United would get rid of Zirkzee to see Gyokeres arrive.

This is a move few would argue against, with Gyokeres’ goal record under Amorim speaking for itself.

The former Coventry star is lethal in front of goal, technically excellent, strong and quick – everything a great number nine needs.

If the cash is there, United must make the move, it could very well change Amorim’s fortunes entirely.
