BREAKING NEWS: English FA has revealed another devastating punishment for Manchester United’s defender Partick Dorgu after his red card against Ipswich Town
Manchester United will be without the services of Patrick Dorgu for their next three domestic matches due to the red card that he was handed in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.
Following intervention from VAR, which led to referee Darren England being sent across to the monitor, Dorgu was handed a straight red card for a lunge on Ipswich’s Omari Hutchinson in the first half of what proved to be a 3-2 win for the Red Devils.
The January arrival from Lecce will now be suspended for three domestic games, including Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Fulham, in addition to the team’s next two league fixtures against Arsenal and Leicester City.
Dorgu can take part in the Europa League during his ban, though, so the Denmark international will be available to take to the field for both legs of the last-16 clash against Real Sociedad.
The 20-year-old’s next Premier League appearance for the Red Devils, meanwhile, could come against Nottingham Forest on April 1, and that fixture may also mark the return of Kobbie Mainoo following an injury.
Mazraoui in line to replace Dorgu against Fulham
Noussair Mazraoui dropped down to the bench against Ipswich last time out, but he was introduced shortly before the interval, with head coach Ruben Amorim needing to make a defensive change.
Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot are likely to be the wing-backs while Dorgu is out, with Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro set to continue as the three centre-backs, with Lisandro Martinez out for the season with a serious knee injury.
“We have players out so we have to keep our players available. We have to make some rotation but we have to fight for every game. It’s not a difference in the FA Cup or Europa League,” Amorim told reporters after the clash with Ipswich.
“He [Dorgu] is going to be ready to play. He will play in the Europa League, for sure, as we have to make rotation. It’s the life of a player, you make a mistake but you have to go again and play the next game.”
Amorim: ‘Dorgu unfortunate with red card’
Addressing the red card, Amorim said: “I didn’t see it. The important thing is I know my player and he doesn’t want to injure a colleague in his profession. He wants to play the ball. Maybe it was a little bit harsh in the way he went for the ball.
“I didn’t see the image so I have to see it. But clearly he’s ready for the Premier League. He’s inexperienced but people judge right away. Last week, he was okay and had a good performance against Everton.
“Today, you say he’s not experienced enough. We have central defenders who are very good defending the box and we saw already [with ten men] against Arsenal and Wolverhampton, when we were so near to drawing game, today we managed to score so the result was very good.”
Dorgu arrived at Man United in January off the back of making 57 appearances for Lecce, and he has started all four of his new club’s matches since the deal went through.
