Munich: Harry Kane scored four goals in Bayern Munich’s emphatic win over Dinamo Zagreb to become the English player with the most goals in Champions League football, breaking Wayne Rooney’s record. Kane’s brilliant performance helped Bayern defeat Dinamo Zagreb 9-2.

This is the first time since 2016 that so many goals were scored in a single Champions League match. This also gave Bayern’s new coach Vincent Kompany a great start to his campaign in European competition. Kane scored in the 19th, 53rd, 73rd and 78th minutes, taking his total number of goals in the competition to 33, which is a new record for an England player.

He left behind Rooney’s record of 30 goals. Kane scored three goals on penalties. He said after the match, ‘To be honest, after the second penalty I did not know what to do on the third penalty but I am happy that I was successful in scoring a goal on this one too.’ It was the highest goalscoring match in the Champions League since Borussia Dortmund’s 8–4 win over Legia Warsaw in 2016.
