Deal Completed: Manchester United has finally sealed the deal to sign a top-class winger who has more capabilities than Lamine Yamal
Manchester United remain relaxed over their pursuit of Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo and are still considered the favourites to sign him in the summer transfer window.
United saw an opening bid of £45 million plus a further £10m in add-ons rejected by Brentford earlier this month and remain in negotiations with the London club ahead of a revised formal offer. It is understood the next official bid could be United’s final proposal as they look to get their business done as early as possible this summer.
Brentford are holding out for a fee in the region of the £62.5m United have agreed to pay for Matheus Cunha, while Ruben Amorim’s side are hopeful they can reach an agreement for a lower fee than the current asking price.
Mbeumo has privately indicated he would prefer to join United this summer despite Thomas Frank’s appointment at Tottenham Hotspur. The Dane managed Mbeumo for six years, though his move to North London was not much of a surprise and is something the player would have been aware of before he prioritised an Old Trafford transfer.

Manchester United would be off to a fine start in the summer transfer window if they managed to sign both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo before their pre-season schedule begins. United play their first summer friendly against Leeds on 19 July and are expected to report back to Carrington early next month, with a staggered return for those who were involved in international duty after the end of the season.
Ruben Amorim prioritised an overhaul of his attacking options in the summer window after United managed to score just 44 goals in the Premier League last season. Cunha and Mbeumo managed a combined total of 35 league goals between themselves as they both enjoyed stellar individual campaigns.
There is also a desire to sign Premier League-proven player this summer as Amorim looks to improve the overall athleticism and fitness of his first-team squad. United struggled with the intensity and physicality of domestic matches last season and need serious improvement ahead of a campaign without any European football.
Even if they manage to sign both Cunha and Mbeumo, United remain in the market for a striker this summer after they missed out on a move for Liam Delap. They are keeping tabs on Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike though they might end up going for a lower-profile striker if they manage to add the proven quality of the Premier League duo.
United are also keeping tabs on options in central midfield and wing-back, while Amorim would like to refresh his goalkeeping department with a replacement for either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir.
