DEAL HIJACKED: Man United hijack Chelsea’s transfer as £111million attacker snubs Chelsea to join the Reds on record transfer fee

Manchester United have endured a dire Premier League campaign this season, still, they had the opportunity to salvage something by winning the Europa League.

Winning this competition would have taken them to the Champions League, but they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the final. Meaning, they now have to end this term empty-handed.

Therefore, Ruben Amorim’s side are yet to beat a surviving Premier League team since defeating Fulham back in January.

Despite the Red Devils’ poor performances, Amorim’s job is believed to be safe, and they are planning the summer business with him in charge.

Football Insider state that following Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s inconsistent performances, Man Utd are ready to let one of them leave to create room for a new striker and raise funds for other signings.

They have identified Ipswich Town star Liam Delap as the top target and United are set to sign the Man City academy graduate for a fee of around £30m.

Chelsea and Everton are also interested in him, but the Old Trafford club are in pole position in this race.

Man Utd purchased Hojlund from Atalanta for around £72m ahead of last season. Following that, Joshua Zirkzee was hired from Bologna, yet another Italian side, in a £36m deal last summer to support the Dane.

However, the duo have netted only seven goals combined in the Premier League this campaign. On the other hand, Delap has scored 12 goals and registered two assists for relegated Ipswich.

Goal-scoring has been a huge issue for Amorim’s side, and signing a new striker may help them address this problem. However, purchasing yet another young striker could be a risky move, as the pressure of performing at a club of United’s stature is unlike anything they’ve experienced before.
