DONE DEAL: Arsenal cancelled Benjamin Sesko’s deal, sign another striker who’s far better than him
Arsenal are actively looking to sign an attacker in the final days of the January transfer window.
Mikel Arteta has issued several public cries for help to the board as injuries continue to plague the Gunners manager, though they have somewhat alleviated in recent days.
Riccardo Calafiori and Ethan Nwaneri were back in the matchday squad to face Dinamo Zagreb in Champions League action. Ben White is also edging closer to a return after missing the last few months with an issue that required a minor procedure to fix.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba, however, are still absent with Arteta on the hunt for reinforcements in his frontline. Matheus Cunha, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have been just a few players linked with the latter duo sending clear messages on Wednesday evening.
In the Champions League meeting between RB Leipzig and Sporting CP, both strikers were on target with the German side winning 2-1. Owing to the finances involved, Arsenal signing either man appears unlikely especially with Marco Rose adamant Sesko will not be leaving Leipzig.
Though Arsenal would rather sign one of their long-term targets this summer, there is one very good option that could be available in January and at a much lower price. According to Sky Sports Germany, several Premier League clubs are interested in a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
It’s also claimed he could be available for as little as £42.3million (€50million). The Gunners have not been credited with a specific interest but, given their need to strengthen in attack, his situation could be one to watch.
The 24-year-old has been made to settle for limited game-time recently but, even with just 933 minutes played in all competitions this campaign, he has scored eight goals. If Arsenal do make a move, then they might have to act quickly with interest from Saudi Arabia also thought to be lingering.
