DONE DEAL: Man United completes first signing under Ruben Amorim as set to join in January

Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir did not impress against Tottenham Hotspur – and could be replaced in 2025.

Ruben Amorim has been busy preparing for Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth on Sunday after crashing out of the EFL Cup.

United lost 4-3 at Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, missing out on a place in the semi-finals as a result.

Amorim handed a chance to goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, bringing in the Turkish international in place of Andre Onana.

Bayindir didn’t exactly cover himself in glory, showing poor handling for Dominic Solanke’s opener before some soft goalkeeping on Son Heung-min’s winner.

United are expected to sell Bayindir in 2025 and Thursday’s nightmare may just push him one step closer to the exit door.

If United do sell Bayindir, another goalkeeper must be brought in to support Onana.

Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson is on United’s radar and another Championship stopper is now being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United goalkeeping scout Tony Coton is thought to be a fan of Meslier and has watched him on a number of occasions.

Much will depend on Bayindir’s future and whether he has any takers, but United may well attempt to raid old rivals Leeds for Meslier.

Who is United target Illan Meslier?

Meslier hails from Lorient and came up in the ranks of his hometown club, joining Lorient at the age of just nine.

After making his first-team debut at the age of just 18, Meslier made 30 senior appearances before being snapped up by Leeds United in 2019.

Leeds took Meslier on loan before turning the move permanent for £6million, as noted by The Express.

Meslier ended up becoming first-choice goalkeeper under Marcelo Bielsa and has now racked up nearly 200 appearances for the club.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford has hailed Meslier as ‘brilliant’, as quoted by BBC Sport, but his performance have been very up and down in the Championship.

Still only 24, Meslier has just over 18 months left on his contract and United may believe that Leeds can be tempted into selling.
