Done Deal: Manchester United completes the deal to sign top-class attacker who has completed his medical and signed six-years deal
Manchester United are locked in talks with Brentford over the signing of forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Man United believe he can strengthen their attack. He was one of the Premier League’s most potent attackers last term, contributing the third-highest number of goal contributions in the division.
United’s interest in Mbeumo has been applauded by legend Rio Ferdinand, who believes he would be a ‘wonderful signing’ for the club.
Sky Sports now reports that Man United are ‘hopeful of finalising a deal’ for the Cameroon international before their summer tour of the United States.
Brentford rejected United’s second bid of £62.5 million, but there is ‘cautious optimism at United that a deal can be struck and discussions continue internally over the next steps.’
The Bees are holding out for a £65m fee for Mbeumo, which they want paid in a lump sum or with most of it paid upfront.
The west London club are expected to sell the forward on their terms. Sporting director, Phil Giles, has claimed that Mbeumo would be happy to stay at the club if a deal is not agreed.
The 25-year-old is determined to join United and has reportedly agreed personal terms in principle with them.
However, he is ‘frustrated’ that a deal has yet to be agreed with Brentford for his signature.
The Red Devils had hoped that Mbeumo would join them before their pre-season started on Monday.
While the left-footed forward could not join early as intended, Matheus Cunha did as the club had completed a deal for the Brazil international last month.
The Manchester outfit appear cautious in their negotiations with Brentford for the Troyes academy product, just like they did with Wolves for Cunha.
Despite quickly completing a deal for the Brazilian, they persuaded Wolves that his £62.5m release clause be paid in installments.
It is anticipated that they will also reach an agreement with Brentford for Mbeumo, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen before their US tour.
