DONE DEAL: Manchester United very close to announce double transfer signings as striker and goalkeeper completes medical to join the club- Announcement to hold tomorrow at Old Trafford

Manchester United could make a move for Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier in the coming months, according to reports – with the Red Devils keen on securing a move for the young stopper to take over from Andre Onana in the coming weeks, as Ruben Amorim continues to rebuild his squad after a disastrous campaign.

Onana has been clad with mistakes throughout the campaign, and in his rare outings, backup keeper Altay Bayindir hasn’t fared much better – and so United could be best paying a huge fee to land Chevalier, especially as he’s begun to make his way into the French national team.

Report: Man Utd ‘Interested’ in Lucas Chevalier

The Red Devils could look to improve their goalkeeping contingent

The report by Le Parisien states that, with contract renewals from Paris Saint-Germain for Gianluigi Donnarumma reaching a ‘dead end’, the Champions League holders are making advances on a deal for Chevalier – but they will be rivalled by United.

The Lille stopper has made a move to the French capital a ‘priority’, but he has interest from United, who have been linked with the young Frenchman to potentially replace Onana and Bayindir after mistake-ridden displays in the Premier League.

It’s thought that the France Olympic star and former under-21 regular won’t come cheap, and Lille have not given up any hopes of extending his current deal, which expires in two years’ time – meaning that they could demand up to as much as €70million (£60million) for his services.

Chevalier is a sought-after talent; having joined Lille’s academy as a 13-year-old, the Calais-born talent took over from Mike Maignan after he moved to AC Milan, and hasn’t looked back since with a number of impressive displays that have caught the eyes of scouts across European circles, having been called ‘one of the best on-ball goalkeepers’ in the world.

Chevalier has been a frequent fixture on French outlet L’Equipe’s notoriously exclusive ‘Team of the Week’, including garnering a 9/10 rating against Real Madrid back in October in the Champions League.

With just seven Ligue 1 games missed for Lille in the past three seasons, alongside 23 appearances at European level, he’s exactly the sort of goalkeeper that United need, especially having been named ahead of Donnarumma in the Team of the Year for the French top-flight this season.
