“Either they return both of them to this club or they sign this two players for me”: Man United’s coach Ruben Amorim has named TWO players he really want Man United to sign if they can’t bring back TWO ex-players
Ruben Amorim has identified the two key areas he would like to strengthen at Manchester United – if they are able to get a transfer over the line this month.
The 39-year-old coach has yet to be able to influence United’s transfer business, having only arrived at Old Trafford in November. The club are likely to require sales to be able to make any significant incoming moves in the coming weeks but Amorim has already indicated the areas he would like to improve.
A left-footed left wing-back is a long-term priority for United and options are being assessed in January, according to the Athletic. The Red Devils are currently without Luke Shaw and have seen right-footed star Diogo Dalot fill in under Amorim. The Portuguese international is suspended for United’s clash with Southampton after being sent off in the FA Cup win over Arsenal.
United are expected to secure the signing of left-back Diego Leon. The Paraguay international is said to have been in Manchester to put the finishing touches to his move from Cerro Porteno but is unable to make a transfer official until the summer, when he will have turned 18.
United have secured the left-back’s services after agreeing an initial fee of around £3million plus add-ons. Manolo Jimenez, the manager who gave Leon his senior debut, told Versus: ” Manchester United have seen in him what I saw, what my teammates saw, I am honestly very happy that this signing can be completed.”
“Surely in Manchester they will give him the right job so that he can develop,” he added. “The day he’s clear about his decision-making, he will be a great player and won’t make mistakes that can’t be criticised. But [these] are typical for his age and his inexperience.”
While the deal for the future is all but announced, United could have to move quickly in the remaining days of the transfer window. The club are attempting to facilitate the exit of Marcus Rashford.
The 27-year-old has drawn interest from Barcelona and AC Milan and could leave on loan after revealing he wanted a new challenge. The forward’s salary is proving a stumbling block however, with United’s willingness to contribute likely to play a telling role in whether a move is possible.
Should Rashford leave Old Trafford, despite his absence from six of the last seven matchday squads, Amorim wants a replacement to enter his attacking ranks. Randal Kolo Muani is reported to be among the possibilities to join the club on loan.
