FEE AGREED: Arsenal agrees eye-watering fee to sign a striker who scores goals for fun, he’s on his way for medical now

Arsenal have had a frustrating Premier League campaign due to multiple injuries and they are playing catch-up to Liverpool at the top of the table.

The Gunners are six points behind the Reds for the top spot, but the Merseyside outfit have a further advantage with a game in hand against Everton.

Mikel Arteta’s side are still in the title race but need to be perfect hereon to put pressure on the Reds.

The London giants have been tipped to sign a new striker for some time, but The Athletic claim that there is little encouragement that Benjamin Sesko could join them.

The Slovenian ace turned down the Gunners to sign a new contract last summer, and RB Leipzig are reluctant to lose him as they aim for Champions League qualification.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha has been highlighted as an alternative. The Gunners have admired the Brazilian star from his Atletico Madrid days.

He has been in contract stand-off with Wolves, but won’t come on the cheap. It is reported that it could cost around £70 million to prise him away from the Midlands outfit.

Cunha would be a good signing, but the price could be a concern

Sesko has been Arsenal’s main striker target for some time, but a deal seems unlikely at the moment with the 21-year-old not pushing for a mid-season transfer.

This has spread speculation that Cunha could emerge as the prime target. The 25-year-old has been in good form in the Premier League with 10 goals and four assists this term.

Cunha, described as a ‘special player‘ by Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, has missed just one big chance. He has scored four goals from outside the box.

The Brazilian would be a good mid-season signing for the Gunners, but the big question remains whether they are prepared to make a huge outlay of £70m to land his signature.

Such spending could have an effect on their summer transfer plans where the budget could be reduced.
