FEE AGREED: Manchester United agree eye-watering fee to sign 19-year-old striker who’s more stronger than Erling Haaland
Manchester United are edging closer to a deal for Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo with the gap in valuation between the clubs narrowing, it has been reported.
The Red Devils submitted an offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons for Mbeumo earlier this month but saw that swiftly knocked back by the powers that be at the Gtech Community Stadium.
United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves this summer after meeting his £62.5m release clause and coming to terms on a payment structure that will see the fee paid in equal instalments. Brentford feel Mbeumo is worth a similar amount to the Brazilian after he scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 38 Premier League games last term.
Now a new update has revealed that United are edging towards an agreement with the Bees as the clubs continue to hold talks over a move.
Bryan Mbeumo personal terms already agreed as discussions continue on fee
According to Rudy Galetti, personal terms will not be an issue as they have already been agreed between Mbeumo and United. On Tuesday night he shared a positive update on the deal, as he posted on X: “Positive contacts between Man UTD and Brentford for Mbeumo. The gap on fixed fee is narrowing: just a few million left.
“Personal terms have already been agreed, as revealed days ago: to date, Bryan only wants MUFC – no interest in other clubs.”
It was reported earlier in the week that Mbeumo was still leaning towards a move to United despite interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The forward had already snubbed interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United in the hopes of moving to Old Trafford.
However, Thomas Frank’s appointment at Spurs threatened to throw a spanner in the works. A move to North London would see Mbeumo remain with the manager who he has enjoyed success under since moving to England while he would also not have to uproot from London. Spurs are also in the Champions League.
His heart looks set on a move to the Red Devils as the clubs continue to try and thrash out an agreement over a fee.
Bryan Mbeumo is ‘leader in the making’
Mbeumo has 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 games since joining Brentford back in August 2019. He has been consistently lauded by Frank during his time with the Bees. Addressing the player’s leadership qualities, Frank said previously: “I praised him a couple of weeks ago because he drives training with his attitude and work ethic and determination to want to get better and win. He’s definitely a leader in the making.”
Those qualities are certainly something United could do with moving forward. Last season it felt like captain Bruno Fernandes was the only one able to drive standards as he proved to be the Red Devils’ most important players.
Successful sides need more than just a few leaders in the team and Mbeumo’s potential arrival could add another key figure to the dressing room as the Red Devils look to build under Ruben Amorim.
