FINALLY: Manchester United finally reached agreement to sign Mikel Arteta’s preferred striker as the star agree personal terms to join The Reds

Manchester United are heading into the summer transfer window expecting plenty of change to occur in their squad.

This season has been one which has been particularly poor for the Reds as they struggled to perform across all competitions. The Europa League was their one solace but that ended in disaster at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

Now, United must rebuild for next season knowing they will not be competing in Europe. As such, Ruben Amorim has admitted that the Reds will be operating with a smaller squad which could play into their hands if they make the right deals this summer.

The pre-season transfer window opens early for a ten-day period on Sunday to allow those competing in the Club World Cup to complete deals. United can also take advantage of this and do some early business of their own before the transfer fun really begins next month.

With this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at three deals United could complete this week.

Matheus Cunha
The obvious incoming that United will look to complete this week is the arrival of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian bid an emotional farewell to the Wolves supporters following Sunday’s draw to Brentford and he seems destined to move to Old Trafford.

Cunha is believed to have been happy to join United despite the lack of European football this season and his £62.5m release clause can be triggered without the need to sell players. MEN Sport understands the 26-year-old is one of two players who are available to be bought straightaway by United.

Liam Delap
Ipswich Town’s Delap is the other player that United can purchase without the need to sell. Following the Tractor Boys’ relegation from the top flight, United are able to snap him up for a reasonable £30m.

Unlike Cunha, Delap is observing his options elsewhere and the Reds are aware that Chelsea and Newcastle are also keen on him. Ineos see the 22-year-old as a perfect addition to their frontline with his age and previous Premier League experience working in his favour.

However, if he chooses to move elsewhere, United will need to go back to the drawing board.
