“He has returned and ready to start against Arsenal but I have changed his position…I think he’ll be more dangerous in that position”: Man United’s coach Ruben Amorim has given Leny Yoro a new position, expresses his excitement to see him back

Manchester United are now preparing for Ruben Amorim’s third Premier League game in charge with a trip to Arsenal coming up this week.

Ruben Amorim started his Manchester United reign with a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town but has now picked up two wins in a row.

The Gunners will still have hopes of winning the Premier League title and this will prove to be a big test of United’s progress under Amorim.

United beat Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League last week, coming from 2-1 down to secure a 3-2 home win over the Norwegian side.

United then beat Everton 4-0 on Sunday, handing Amorim his first Premier League victory since heading to Old Trafford.

The challenge is about to ramp up this week though with United travelling down to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Ruben Amorim on Leny Yoro

United have at least boosted confidence under Amorim but it’s too early to make too many judgements about his reign.

Amorim is though pushing a back three, bringing over the 3-4-3 system he used to great effect at Sporting.

Noussair Mazraoui has impressed Amorim with his displays as a centre back whilst Mazraoui has thanked Matthijs de Ligt for making his job easier.

Both defenders arrived over the summer but only after Leny Yoro joined United from Lille in a deal worth up to £52million.

The French wonderkid suffered an injury over the summer and has yet to make his competitive debut for United.

Amorim has now confirmed to United’s official website that Yoro has a chance to be in the travelling squad to Arsenal.

The United boss feels that Yoro is a truly ‘special’ talent but vowed to be careful over this fitness given his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Amorim added that Yoro is a ‘modern defender’ with great pace, and is now excited to see the youngster finally make his mark for United.

“I think he is a special talent but we have to be careful in this first moment,” said Amorim.

“We didn’t have too many trainings together. He’s training not alone but with a small group of players. He’s really fast but he’s a modern defender and that is good when you want to press high. You have a lot of strikers, especially in this league, one against one. I think he can manage that.

He’s very good with the ball so I’m really excited but we have to be careful. We have to manage the load and the minutes in the beginning but I’m really excited to see Leny Yoro playing,” he added.

Where will Leny Yoro fit in for Manchester United?

Yoro arrived having predominantly played in a back four at Lille, which made sense for United given Erik ten Hag’s 4-2-3-1 approach.

Amorim has a very different idea in mind though and Yoro will now be viewed either as the middle centre back, or as an option on the right side.

Mazraoui has been so good in that right-sided role that he looks set to keep his place for a long time yet with Amorim so impressed.

Yoro may be eyeing up the central role in Amorim’s back three but the new boss may be reluctant to break up that partnership between Mazraoui and De Ligt.

The pair played together at both Ajax and Bayern Munich and that know-how helped United claim a clean sheet on Sunday.

Yoro may be a while off making his full Premier League debut but he will be ready to go in either role whenever Amorim calls on him.
