Arsenal have have held ‘talks’ with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to United Stand report Sam C on X (via Sport Bible). The Telegraph claimed earlier this week that the Gunners were long-term admirers of the player.
Sesko, who is 21-years-old, could be seen by Arteta as someone to bolster their attacking department. He has a lot of potential and would be a useful long-term addition for the London outfit as they chase down Liverpool.
The Slovenia international has been on the books at Leipzig since joining the Bundesliga club in 2023. He has since scored 31 goals in 67 games in all competitions for them to date, 13 of which have come in this campaign.
Sesko was snapped up as a youngster by RB Salzburg and was loaned out to FC Liefering to get some experience under his belt initially. He then broke into the first-team of the Austrian Bundesliga team and found the net on 29 occasions in 79 outings before his current club swooped in for his signature.
Leipzig could now face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere. A switch to England wouldn’t be a surprise and he has been linked with it for a while.
Arsenal strike Martin Zubimendi deal
Arsenal have reached an ‘agreement’ to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, according to Football Transfers. The Gunners have identified him as someone to boost their midfield ranks.
Zubimendi, who is 25-years-old, has been on the books of Sociedad for his whole career to date but is now poised for a change of scene for the first time. He helped Spain win Euro 2024 last year in Germany.
Arteta has until the end of the month to bring in more players. Speaking after their victory over Spurs, he said: “I’m extremely happy. We have the opportunity to make a lot of our supporters very happy because it’s the most special day of the season, and I think we’ve done that.
“On top of that, I think they will feel very proud about the team and about the players that we have and how privileged we are that they are representing this football club in the way that they do. Today was one of the best [atmospheres] that I’ve seen. That’s what we have to do consistently, I said it in the press conference, that depends on us, nobody else. There are things that we cannot control – that one for sure we can control, so let’s make the most out of it.”
He added: “I think the momentum is now. We put in so much effort, the recovery, the way they have to bounce back immediately and play a game of this level. They have to enjoy it, they fully deserve it. Tomorrow we start with Villa and Saturday we’ll be ready again.”
