HERE WE GO! Man United completes first January transfer deal as Erik ten Hag’s summer signing leaves the club

Manchester United have a number of players in the squad who are considered expendable and should be allowed to leave, if a suitable offer comes in.

Ruben Amorim cannot be expected to build a winning project without allowing him to make such decisions.

For example, the Portuguese tactician has evidently sidelined Marcus Rashford from matchday squads for some time now, except for one game in between and it is clear that he doesn’t like what he sees from the Manchester United academy graduate.

Similarly, there are other players in the squad like Casemiro, who has been underperforming for quite a while and is well past his prime.

The Brazilian arrived at the club from Real Madrid in 2022 and his performances have not matched the money the club spent on him.

Man Utd spent around £60m to sign Casemiro from the Spanish side at a time when he was one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

However, age has surely caught up with the talented midfielder who is a pale shadow of his former imperious self.

Now, as per TBR Football, Man Utd are ready to let 32-year-old Casemiro leave for less than £30million, as they look to get his enormous wages off their books. With Saudi interest in the player, a transfer is a real possibility.

The Old Trafford club might be losing almost half of what they spent in bringing him but at this point, it is more important to make room and comply with FFP that would give them the opportunity to sign new players to suit Amorim’s system.

In hindsight, which is always a beautiful thing in football, Man Utd should not have bought Casemiro when they did as he was never an alternative for De Jong.

Let’s wait and see if they negotiate a deal to get him to leave the club this transfer window.
