HERE WE GO: Manchester United welcome new signing as striker completes medical to join the Reds on five-years transfer deal

Manchester United want to sign both Emiliano Martinez and Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes.

Ruben Amorim will be desperate to improve on what was, by points tally, Man United’s worst-ever Premier League season. The Red Devils struggled for consistency all term, choosing Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag early in the campaign. Without a preseason or many signings, however, the Portuguese struggled to truly implement his ideas.

Former Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu was Amorim’s only major signing in the 2024/25 season. The ex-Sporting boss found far more success in Europe compared to the Premier League, but fell to a 1-0 defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, meaning that the Red Devils will not be playing any continental football in the new term.

The club have already been busy in the transfer market. Man United have agreed a deal to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha and are monitoring Brentford sensation Bryan Mbeumo, with recent reports suggesting that the club want to continue their efforts to revitalise Amorim’s squad.

Double Move For Man United?

Both targets have been linked with exits

Man United are, according to Fichajes, closely monitoring both Emi Martinez and Viktor Gyokeres. Since signing for Aston Villa in 2020, Martinez has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers on the planet. The World Cup-winning Martinez has been dubbed “world-class” for his consistent brilliance with the Villans, though Martinez has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa this summer.

Both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have struggled for consistency under Amorim who, in Martinez, would be signing a brilliant, but more importantly, experienced, shot-stopper to start for his side. It would seem that the Red Devils want to further bolster their attacking ranks, with Fichajes linking them to Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has blossomed into one of Europe’s deadliest strikers with Sporting, who he joined from Coventry City in 2023. It was under Amorim that Gyokeres first found such form, with Man United having previously been linked with a move for the Swede, who looks set for a transfer this summer. Just like Martinez, Gyokeres has also been described as “world-class” for his ability.

Fichajes have stated that Man United’s board are working to complete these signings for a combined total of 100 million Euros, or just over £84 million. While no European football may impact the club’s spending, they have shown with the signing of Cunha that they certainly have at least some funds to help Amorim rebuild his side.
