HERE WE GO: Manchester United finally agree £80million transfer fee to sign a top Premier league striker who has scored more than Erling Haaland last season

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is now expected to arrive at Manchester United in the new week before the head coach Ruben Amorim and his squad go on tour next weekend, according to The Telegraph.

The Red Devils begin their pre-season with a friendly against Leeds United next Saturday before leaving for the United States the following weekend, and the Cameroon international is likely to be with them.

Man United have been trying to sign Mbeumo for weeks and breakthrough in negotiations is expected in the coming days.

The Old Trafford club have already added Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon to their first-team so far this summer, and the Brentford star could be next as Amorim looks to bolster his ranks ahead of the tour of the United States.

The Portuguese could also be forced to go into the market for another goalkeeper after Andre Onana got ruled out of the pre-season tour after sustaining a hamstring injury during the week.

The 29-year-old could miss up to two months of action, and while Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are available as covers, Man United could do with a quality option capable of giving the Cameroon international a run for his money.

Amorim wants to strengthen his attack and replace the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho, and signing Mbeumo would be perfect following the arrival of Cunha.

The 25-year-old winger notched 20 goals and eight assists in 38 Premier League games last term and is eager to join Man United and take his career to the next level.

The Bees want around £65 million for Mbeumo after Cunha cost the Red Devils £62.5m, and both clubs appear to be nearing an agreement following weeks of negotiations.

Signing a central midfielder is the next priority for Man United once the Brentford attacker is signed, and they are interested in the likes of Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand, Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha and Palmeiras ace Richard Rios.
