Self-confident Amorim before his first United match: – I really think you’re the right one

A cheerful Rúben Amorim met the press for the first time in his new job.

– Feel free to call me naive, but I really believe that I am the right man for this. I can be wrong, but the world wants to go on and the sun wants to rise again – I don’t worry about that. I really believe that I am the right one for this job, says the 39-year-old.

On Sunday, Amorim will get his first chance to prove himself when Manchester United travel to Ipswich.

After the first eleven first rounds in the Premier League, Manchester United is all the way down in 13th place.

Under Erik ten Hag, «the red devils» managed only four victories. This means that already after a third of the season they are well behind their fiercest rivals.

– How long do you think you need to «repair» Manchester United?

– I don’t know if I want to call it “to repair”, but we must grow as a team.

– I think we have to improve the physical part. I don’t know how long it will take, but I know that as a manager here you have to win games, says Amorim.

The Portuguese comes from great success at Sporting and is full of self-confidence when he now takes over a club in trouble.

– I have big dreams. I believe in myself and believe in the club. I think we have the same ideas and «mindset», and I really believe in the players, says Amorim and addresses the press:

Amorim is brought in as Erik ten Hag’s etterfølger etter at he was fired earlier this fall.

One of the last things Amorim did in his now old coaching job was to crush United’s city rivals Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League in Lisbon.

The 39-year-old also left the club while they were topping the table in the Portuguese league.
