“I will never forget this guy even in a hurry, he made me restless…I’ve never seen such performance from an opponent player before”: Liverpool coach Arne Slot names ONE Man United’s player who was their nightmare yesterday

Liverpool were strong favourites on Sunday afternoon but Manchester United upset the odds to take a point from their trip to Anfield.

Manchester United fans will be glad that their trip to Merseyside was not suspended due to the snow.

With Ruben Amorim in the worst form of his career and United on a four-game losing streak, there was not much optimism around the Liverpool clash.

However, United players answered their critics in emphatic fashion by drawing 2-2 with Liverpool. They played with confidence and arrogance at Anfield, going toe-to-toe with the Premier League leaders.

Lisandro Martinez became the first United player to score at Anfield since 2018 when he fired the Red Devils into the lead, and Amad Diallo added to his impressive catalogue of goals by equalising late on.

But Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes two other United players caused his side big problems.

Arne Slot praises Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes

Despite struggling in recent weeks, Diogo Dalot kept his spot at left wing-back against Liverpool.

He started brightly by taking on Trent Alexander-Arnold in the opening few minutes and he continued to trouble the England international all afternoon.

As did his United and Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes, who started on the left side of United’s attack and often drifted to link up with Dalot out wide.

United fans raved about Fernandes during the match, with supporters hailing his “immense” performance.

After the full-time whistle, even Slot couldn’t help but praise the United duo.

When asked if United hurt Liverpool down the left flank, Slot told Sky Sports: “Yeah I think they did.

“I think that’s also to do with Bruno Fernandes, who is a very, very good player. He played a very good game today as well.

“They did cause us some problems. Dalot was a threat as well on the left side so we are talking about two starters for the Portugal national team. So it is not always easy to defend against them.

“I would put it more on the quality of Dalot and Bruno Fernandes than it is down to Trent.”

Bruno Fernandes demands consistency at Man United

Fernandes will be the first to admit that he has struggled for form this season. He enjoyed a purple patch under Ruud van Nistelrooy but has otherwise dropped well below his usual standards.

However, he was at his very best against Liverpool and after the full-time whistle he urged his United teammates to build on Sunday’s performance and stay consistent.

“I’m pretty upset,” Fernandes said to Sky Sports after the 2-2 draw.

“If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can’t we do this everywhere? It frustrates me.

“Also, finally I did a proper performance. We said we need much more from ourselves to get more from this season.”
